Pneumatic pulling winch to moor tankers to a buoy

Pneumatic pulling winch to moor tankers to a buoy

Description

Background

For a Dutch constructor of Single Points Mooring facilities operating in several offshore areas, Starter has been requested to bring its expertise.

Objectives

Our customer expressed a need to moor tankers to a buoy by means of a hawser arrangement. In order to tension the hawser, STARTER team provided a pneumatic pulling winch.

Challenges

With a loading buoy anchored offshore, that serves as a mooring point and interconnect for tankers loading or offloading gas or liquid products, Starter designed an adequate winch in order to respond to its customer’s requirements.

STARTER solution : pneumatic pulling winch

In order to tension the hawser, STARTER teams provided a pneumatic pulling winch placed on the top of the buoy. The hawsers from the boat are tensed in order to get the boat closer to the buoy. This kind of installation had already been done in Africa, Malaysia and United Arab Emirates.

Result

Winches consist of autonomous solution allowing an offshore lifetime of twenty-five years.
